Milk Blur Stick: Worth the Hype?!

I’ve heard soon much hype about the Milk Blur Stick! Mostly on IG, there are millions of tutorials with beautiful full faced looks, all starting with this product.  I personally like high end face products because my skin breaks out, so this was something that really peeked my interest. Luckily for me, the Milk Blur Stick was in one of my Sephora Play boxes, so I got to try it out without buying a full sized version.

What’s all the hype about?

This product is listed for sale on sephora.com for $36. It is said to reduce the appearance of pores & fine lines all while keeping your makeup looking great all day long! I had to know if this is something that was just hype on IG or if it was the real deal. Let’s dive a little deeper into packaging, application, texture, similar products, and most importantly does it live up to the hype?

Packaging

The packaging on this is pretty straight forward, nothing too cute. This type of packaging is similar to deodorant, where you twist the bottom to reveal the product dispensing at the top. I absolutely love twist up products like this, they are super easy to use and quick to apply.

Application

This does seem to glide right over the skin, but almost the effect that its not transferring the product on. I swiped this along my forehead and cheek area and it almost felt like there was nothing on my skin. I know that sounds like a good thing, lightweight makeup, but its not. I feel like this is just so light and subtle that I wasn’t getting the payoff I wanted. I did reapply over the same area with a few swipes to make sure it was rubbing onto the skin. I know it did transfer on because you can see the product dwindling in the package but it jut felt like nothing was happening.

Texture

This is a solid product that I am just not use to. Typically, primers are a similar consistency to lotion or a gel like serum. This is smooth to the touch and feels like it would dry down to a soft powder finish. I do like the way it feels on my fingers when I swatch this, but I just don’t feel that same texture on my face. I will say my skin feels smooth after gliding this over, but it doesn’t feel insanely improved and there was no visible difference in my pores or fine lines.

I did follow up with foundation and concealer to see if maybe this just didn’t blur by itself and had to have product layered over it. Even still, I didn’t notice any blurring effects and my pores were still gigantic.

Similar Products

Some similar products that I am familiar with are Benefit Porefessional and Urban Decay DeSlick Complexion Primer. These two products are a more gel/cream like consistency rather than a solid, like this Milk Blur Stick. I much prefer these two products over the Blur Stick, because they actually work. The Benefit primer is very soft, velvety texture on the skin and definitely helps with pores. This is available in two sizes at Sephora, listed at $12 or $31. The Urban Decay primer is a dry, matte primer that hold all day to keep the skin from getting oily, and also helps with fine lines and pores (I do not recommend the Deslick if you have dry skin). This primer is $34 at Sephora.

Does it live up to the Hype?

Nope! This really feels like a joke, did I get a bad batch or something? I feel like this didn’t do anything to improve the look of my skin, nor did it make my makeup last longer. I am sooooo happy I receive this in my Sephora box and didn’t drop $36 on a full sized container. Save you money! Or better yet, go pick up some Porefessional or DeSlick, they work way better.

Side note

This is my personal opinion. I am not trying to bash companies or products, I just want to give my honest review on a product in hopes I am helping others save there money and time on products that are just Instagram popular and not actually amazing items. If this products works for you and you completely disagree with me, that’s totally okay! Everyone has different skin with different need and wants.

Let me know in the comments below how you guys and gals feel about the Milk Blur Stick. Am I applying it wrong on layering it incorrectly? I truly want to know why people love this so much because I thought it was a total let down.

Walmart Beauty Box: Summer 2017

If you are unfamiliar with the Walmart Beauty Box, it is a quarterly subscription box showcasing items sold at Walmart stores. Walmart charges $5 per box, so all together it’s $20 a year to receive these beauty boxes. The items range from sample, deluxe sample and sometimes full sized products. Everything is pretty budget friendly, being that it’s from a company sold at Walmart stores.

Again, this is not a monthly subscription, this comes out every 4 weeks and is themed per season. This season was the Summer Box, lets dive in!

Packaging

The packaging on this box is super cute. The paper inside has adorable little fireworks. I really like that Walmart does this top of box, where the lid comes completely off. I must say I prefer boxes over cosmetics bags, like you would receive in Ipsy. I reuse the boxes to store things in my house, to wrap gifts, to ship giveaways etc. The cosmetics bags I receive from other subscription boxes usually dont get much use from me, but I digress. I love the colors scheme so much on this box, it just so happens to match my hair!

Simple Cleansing Wipes

If you are familiar with my blog, you know I am OBSESSED with Simple wipes. I use these every morning before I do my makeup to remove any excess oil and dirt. I also use these every night to take my makeup off. I just love the formula of this product; the wipes are soft and gentle but effective at removing stubborn makeup. Such a great product to receive in this box!!

Impress Press on Manicure One Step Gel

This is such a cute item and I love the idea of it but my natural nails are longer than the press ons. I will hold on to these because I would love to try them out and see how they work when my nails are shorter. I am very curious about the adhesive on the back of these nails.. would it actually hold up compared to nail glue? The color/design is gorgeous, the package I received has white nails, along with 3 different accent nails: one is solid glittery gold, one is a diamond shaped pattern of glittery gold and one says “love” is glittery gold. I do like these a lot and this is the first time I’ve receive a full sized product in one of these boxes! I looked up the price, and this sells for $7.99!!!!

Pantene Pro-V Dream Care Shampoo & Conditioner

I don’t use Pantene products so I wont personally be using this, but my boyfriend travels for work, so this is perfect to throw in his travel bag. I did pop them open and they smell good, so thats a plus! Just because I wont be using these doesn’t mean I think its a bad product. These are travel sizes that you would buy for like $1-2 each anyway so I think its a good product for a $5 subscription box.

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion

SOOOO this product is totally haunting me. I obviously got this in this season’s box, hence why were discussing it, but I also receive TWO of these in my winter box… AND I already have a full bottle in my bathroom that I never use. I’m just not a fan of this product. I use to live by Aveeno as a kid/teen because I had a lot of skin issues. The older I go the more oily my skin got and I stopping using Aveeno because I just didn’t need it anymore. If you suffer from any kind of skin irritation, this product would probably work really well for you, I’m just not a fan for my skin.

Eco Tools Mask Remover Sponges

This just seems like the most genius invention ever! I hate taking off mud masks because they are so thick and just seem to cling to my skin ruthlessly. I haven’t used these sponges yet, nor have I ever used a product like this. I typically remove mud masks with a warm face cloth and it works, but I like gimmicky so I’ll totally be testing these out. The package says you can ring these out after you use them and dry them, which means they are reusable! It also states these are a gentle exfoliating sponge which you can use with you regular face wash. There is nothing I love more that a multi-purpose beauty product. I have a feeling I will love these! I did check the price because I was curious if this was a full sized product and the sponges are the actual size you would receive in a full sized package, but the full sized does come with 3 sponges for $3.97 at Walmart.

Wally’s Natural Organic Body Oil

This sample comes in a tube very similar to perfume testers. It looks like a tiny amount of product but being that oil goes a pretty long way, maybe it will stretch. It does say is reduces the appliance of scars, stretch marks and dry skin, I happen to have all 3, so I will give this a try. I do get nervous about oils, being that I already have oily skin but I am going to use this as a spot treatment on my scars and see if the discoloration goes away.

Schwarzkopf Got2B Glued Spiking Glue

This is one of those, no thank you products…. I don’t use spiking glue in my hair so this isn’t the type of product I would get excited about. This is also not something my boyfriend or brother or anyone I know could use so maybe I’ll save it for a giveaway. I will say, it smells good! Quick side story, when I was 14 I had beautiful natural chocolate brown hair down to my waist and I chopped it all off so that my bangs came down to my chin, and the rest of my hair was short spikes. Back then, a product like this would have been so perfect for that grudge-y/punk look I was trying so hard to achieve. I wish I had a picture of my 14 year old rock and roll self to share with you guys, talk about a glow-up.

Overall

That is everything I received for the Summer Walmart Beauty Box, I have to say, this box is fan-freaking-tanstic!!! Seriously, this has to be the best Walmart Beauty Box I’ve ever received. Last seasons box was kind of womp-womp, so I am pleasantly surprised with the goodies I got this month! I am really impressed that there were so many products (and such a high value) for a box that is only $5! If you are on the fence of subscribing to a month beauty box like Ipsy or Sephora, this could be a great place for you to start!

Do any of your guys and gals receive these Walmart boxes? Let me know in the comments what products you received this season! I am curious about the Target subscription box too, but they sell out so quickly, and you cannot enroll for a subscription to have it automatically sent to you.

Drug Store Prices, High End Results

If there’s one statement that I find myself repeating to others who ask about beauty, it’s “You don’t have to spend a ton to achieve a beautiful look!” There are so many IG accounts and Youtubers showing us all these luxury products that will seriously break your bank but what about those hidden gems at the drug store?! Lets shine some light on those drugstore priced products that have a high end performance.

Almay Liquid Eyeliner, $9.99

My eyeliner needs to  be 3 things: as black as possible, as matte as possible, and as long lasting as possible. This liquid eyeliner hits all three of those, plus its just under $10! I have used this eyeliner for a good majority of my life because its just sooooo good. The application is easy peasy and a sharp wing holds up really well throughout the day. I have used my fair share of high end liquid liners and most don’t come close to this amazing formula.

Simple Micellar Wipes, $7.99

These wipes will remove everything from your face effectively but very gently. I really love the texture, the wipes are soft and coated in the micellar solution. I have tried other brands that either have very stiff wipes or they’re just too dry. I start and end my day with these, using one in the morning before staring my makeup and one at night to take it all off! A quick tip for really hot summer days is to keep this package in your fridge! At the end of the day when your hot and sweaty, a cold wipe feels so nice to clean your face and make you feel refreshed!

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipsticks, $5.99

I have a few Maybelline lipsticks in various shades and finishes but my all time favorite is the matte shade, Touch of Spice. This color is so pigmented and gorgeous and completed underrated! I see so many brands coming out with mauve-y shades like this, priced anywhere from $15-30. These Maybelline lipsticks wear really well and are not overly drying like a lot of matte products. I have to say this $5 lipstick is blowing a lot of these luxury brands out of the water.

Shea Moisture Masks, 2 for $5

Everyone seems to be on a skin care kick lately, including myself! You want to start off with a prepped canvas to create your artwork so it makes sense so many beauty gurus love masks. I have noticed that skin care is getting reallllllly expensive lately. Luckily I found these mud mask packages for sale at Walmart, 2 for $5! Not only are these super inexpensive to begin with, but you can absolutely get more than one application per package! I typically get 3 masks per package since its so thick and creamy it spreads out pretty far with just a little product. I have tried a few of the different types and my favorite is the Radiant Mud Mask: with hibiscus & coconut as well as the Clarifying Mud Mask: with black african soap, tamarind & tee tree oil.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer Neutralizer (Yellow) $7.99

The yellow shade in this will neutralize purple undertones in the skin, making it perfect to cover dark circles. I would still recommend a concealer on top to better match you skin tone as this is more for color correcting opposed to coverage. The packaging on this is so well thought out. The top is a dome shaped sponge that soaks up the product when you turn the bottle. You will hear this click as the product rises to the sponge. Having this packaged like so, you really can get every last drop out of the container, oppose to wand concealers where you just cant reach what has settled at the bottom. The one pictured is running extremely low, so I will be replacing soon! If you have dark circles under your eyes, this baby will become you new best friend.

NYX Liquid Suede, $6.99

These are pretty much Matte, but they say suede. They aren’t overalls drying, but I would suggest a lip scrub before using this for an even application. The formula of this is smooth and creamy. The colors are completely opaque and wear beautifully throughout the day. I do like that these are buildable, you can reapply and not get cakey, cracked lips.

Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation, $5.99

If you need a full coverage foundation, look no further! This foundation covers acne and dark spots wonderfully and still feels light on the face. I would 100% recommend this product to anyone who wants a lot of coverage but not a big bill. I have a more in-depth review of this product in a previous blog post titled “Wet n Wild vs. High End Foundations”. Check that out for more information.

Pur Cosmetics Elevation Palette, $15

This is the only product on this list you cannot find at a drugstore; this is available online at purcosmetics.com but I just had to include it on the list. Most high end highlights run about $30 each. This palette comes with three colors AND a small fan brush for $15, such an amazing deal!!!! The formula is soft and velvety. Pigmentation is beautiful and the shade variety is really nice being there are 3 colors: champagne, pink, and silver/white tone. I love the way these look on the skin, so smooth and bling-y!

Overall: These products all work so well, they could definitely be sold for more and still be worth it. Not that I’m complaining, I love the low price tags associated with these stellar products! What you you guys and gals think about this list? Are there any products on here you use instead of high end items? I know I love all of these cosmetics so much and find myself reaching for them over really expensive items I own.

Baking 101: How to Cover Dark Circles

Baking the face is something I always do for full coverage looks. Some of you may be familiar with this term, but incase you’re not- Baking is when you apply A LOT of setting powder in targeted areas of the face and leave it there for a few minutes before brushing off the excess. By applying a heavy layer of powder and letting it sit, you are warming up the product with your skin. This helps the powder adhere to the area, stay in place throughout the day and gives you a full coverage effect. I typically Bake the under eye area and my jaw line immidately after blending out my concealer.

What type of Powder to Use:

There are certain powders that work better than others when Baking. You want to use a loose setting powder, something that is not in a compact. Powders that are more finely milled will work better, as they are soft to the touch and blend down smoothly, oppose to chunkier powders that may cake up on the skin. We want to bake, not cake!

Color is also an important factor with Baking. Go for a “translucent” setting powdered instead of one that matches your skin. A translucent shade will match with whatever foundation/concealer you are using. Please note translucent does varies per brand, some still are lighter than others, here are 3 translucent powders from different companies.

Some loose powders I really like to use for baking are Kat Von D Lock It Loose Setting Powder, Coty Air Spun Loose Face Powder, and Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder. One thing I will mention is the Tarte powder has pretty bad flashback (which is when your face looks stark white it someone takes your photo) so I would not recommend the Tarte powder if you are attending an event or plan to have photos taken.

For a budget friendly brand, my favorite setting powder is Coty Air Spun, which you can purchase at Walmart for $5.97 (2.3 oz).The texture and coverage of this is very comparable to high end powders, plus the price is amazing for so much product. The only cons for this are the smell, way to floral-y for my liking and the color is a tad to dark for my pale skin.

For a high end option, Kat Von D Lock It Loose Setting Powder is absolutely wonderful. This works really well for my skin because it’s so light that it works to brighten the under eye area. The size pictured is available at Sephora for $15 (0.19 oz).

Applying the Bake

I first apply my primer and foundation to my entire face and then follow up with concealer on my problem areas and anywhere I want to highlight. I create a triangle grid under my eyes and I make a straight line down my nose, along my cheekbones and a bit on my forehead. I always blend my under eyes first and immediately follow with the Bake.

The best way to apply a bake is with a make up sponge/beauty blender. I dip the sponge directly into the powder and then press the powder into a thick layer everywhere I put concealer. This can be a little messy and it does look quiet strange, but don’t worry.

Once the under eye, jawline and center of forehead are covered in the powder I do my brows, eyeshadow, liner and mascara, which give my Bake about 5-15 minutes to sit on the face and warm up.

Removing the Bake

There are a few ways to go about removing the powder from your face, they are all pretty similar. The first way to remove the Bake is to use a fluffy brush that is shaped well to fit the under eye. I use a rounded brush as the bristles are shaped perfectly. You can really use any kind of fluffy brush, just make sure your getting into those harder to reach spots so that you don’t have patchy powder spots.

Another way to remove the bake is with a clean makeup sponge. You can very carefully and lightly dab at the powder which presses into the skin further. This is good for film/photos as it will really cover dark circles.

Once the Bake is removed, be sure to lightly set the rest of you face with the same powder. I typically use a big fluffy brush and lightly buff a tiny bit of powder all over my face to make sure everything stays in place for the day. Make sure you do this with a very light hand. Then apply your bronzers, blush, highlight and spray the crap out of you face with setting spray to lock everything down.

That’s it! It seems like a lot of extra steps by it really is easy peasy. I, for one, have struggled with dark circles under my eyes my entire life, so this technique has really been one of my favorite beauty tricks. What do you guys and gals think, is this something you normally do? If so, what powders do you use? Let me know in the comments!

My Favorite Beauty Bloggers

I watch YouTube the way other people watch TV. I love seeing the latest tends, brands launches, and tutorials. I wanted to share my favorite beauty bloggers with everyone in case you guys and gals aren’t familiar with them. These channels are totally worth checking out!

Tati Westbrook aka GlamLifeGuru

My end all be all is Tati Westbrook. She is classy, sophisticated, down right gorgeous and most importantly she is well educated in the beauty industry. Tati’s channel offers product reviews, skincare, tutorials and more. Some fun segments you will only see on Tati’s channel are “WTF” where she tries ridiculously expensive products or “OMG”; where she tries strange, odd concept products.. This is definitely a channel to follow as she posts very frequently throughout the week. You will notice a variety of products featured wth Tati, both high end and drugstore options. She also does dupe videos, or like she likes to call them, Dupetorials.

Kandee Johnson

Kandee Johnson seriously projects her bubbly upbeat personality through her videos. She is so positive and inspiring, even going so far as to having an uplifting mantra at the end of most videos! Of course, Kandee is a wonderful makeup artist too, creating tutorials, monthly favorites, and very creative videos such as nail art, tee shirt cutting, and more. I have been following Kandee for quiet some time and one of my favorites on her channel were the “Everyday Princess Series” where she transforms herself into the Disney princesses, but in a way that anyone could rock daily. Kandee’s style is like no other. She rocks some items I would find questionable, but when she puts it all together, it’s flawless!

Mykie aka Glam n Gore

Mykie is a super adorable chick with a ton of beauty knowledge. Her channel is properly named Glam N Gore, as she does both beauty looks and FX looks (costume makeup). Between the makeup look itself, lighting, editing, etc. you can see really the time and effort put into Mykie’s videos. She doesn’t upload too often, or have a set schedule like she bloggers, as she is a one woman show when it comes to her channel and you can tell she’s a bit of a perfectionist. Even so, theres a ton of videos to check out if you event seen her channel befroe. She is insanely talented and creative, not to mention her humor is spot on. If you need more Mykie in your life, she recently made a more personal Vlog channel named Mykie.

Kristen Leanne

This beauty blogger, Kristen Leanne, is one of those people you feel like you actually know. She is very straight forward, silly and hilarious on her channel, all while still creative captivating looks. Kristen cutting edge personality and style is what made me start watching her videos. She is a vegan, cruelty free blogger, which means you will only see brands that do not test on animals nor do they have any animal products. You will see makeup, fashion and some insight into her hair color brand, Artic Fox on her channel. You will also see a lot of Flaming Cheetos, seems to be her favorite snack while filming and please note, she’s got a sailors mouth. Kristen definitely tells it like it is, so don’t be surprised if you hear a few F bombs.

Eleventh Gorgeous

This channel is a duo of blonde, bubbly, southern sisters, Tracy and Stephanie. These two are not makeup artists, like most Youtube beauty accounts. But these two know a ton about brands and have a lot of fun together in their videos focusing on tutorials, unboxings, and makeup challenges like “Kids Only Makeup”, “Full Face Glitter”, and “Pintrest Hacks”. Eleventh Gorgeous definitely has some ground covered being that they also be a Vlog, T & S, plus they run an online boutique, Madison & Mallory. These two are fun to watch as they play off each other’s energy a lot. They are Disney obsessed, so I would recommend this channel to a younger audience since they are so wholesome.

Shaaanxo

Shan is a beauty youtube from New Zealand who is super trendy and stylish. Shan has a lot of fun in her videos, sometimes even stopping mid way through a blend to spontaneously lip sync! Shan uploads very frequently doing tutorials, hauls, and even dives into fashion and health. My favorite of her videos are the “Chit Chat and Get Ready with Me” where she does her makeup in real time so you can follow along. You will see a lot of high end brands on this channel and you’ll meet/fall in love with here two pups, Louie and Zues.

So in a nutshell, these are my favorite beauty bloggers to watch on Youtube. (Please note: All photos are screen shots from here Instagram accounts, listed below.)

  • Kandee Johnson: @kandeejohnson
  • Mykie aka Glam n Gore: @mykie_

Beauty Feuds: Jeffree Star vs. Too Faced Cosmetics (+Nikki Tutorials)

I wrote about this briefly in a previous post “Being a Morally Based Beauty Consumer” and I have a few people ask me to elaborate. I just want to start this off by saying, these are the facts, as far as I know. I am not writing this to take sides or bash any brands. These are things I’ve seen on social media accounts, or heard of through other beauty bloggers. So here’s the run down: Jeffree Star, owner of Jeffree Star Cosmetics was very upset when he saw a post made by the owner of Too Faced Cosmetics, Jerrod Blandino. (From here on out I will be referring to the as Jeffree and Blandino, because all these J names will get confusing).

Blandino’s post consisted on a photograph of Youtuber Chloe Morello wearing Too Faced Unicorn Tears lipstick. The first small problem of many to come was that Chloe Morello was not credited for the picture nor was she tagged in the picture. In the beauty world, this is a big no-no! You should always credit work, no matter what! (screenshot photo from allure.com)

Screen Shot 2017-06-17 at 7.27.34 PM.png

The more upsetting part of this was that the post suggests that Too Faced was the first company to have unicorn products and that Tarte Cosmetics had copied them. The caption read “Copy Cats Aren’t Unicorns” and hashtag read “#ThereArentUnincornsInTheAmazon” which is a clear dig at Tarte Cosmetics. If you are unfamiliar with Tarte, they have an entire Unicorn line AND they have an entire Amazonian Clay line, so when you put two and two together, you see this was a dig at Tarte directly. Just to throw this out there, Too Faced was definitely not the first to have Unicorn products and they wont be the last, people like unicorns, what’s the big deal?

So if you’re asking yourself, why does it matter what Blandino posts, the issue at hand it how he said it. The post seems like it came from a not so nice place and also mentioned something about being the best selling item at Ulta, to somehow reenforce that his product is better.

When Jeffree saw this post, he quickly commented, calling out Blandino for being rude and egotistical. Jeffery also mentioned how the contract Nikki Tutorials signed with Too Faced would make people “scream”. Okay, now lets pause here, whats the deal with Nikki Tutorials you ask? (screenshot photo from allure.com)

Screen Shot 2017-06-17 at 7.32.15 PM

Last year, Nikki Tutorials, a very well known beauty blogger collaborated with Too Faced cosmetics to create “The Power of Makeup”. Nikki was reportedly paid $50,000 for this collab. “The Power of Makeup” set went on to sell over $9 million in sale! Some people would be thrilled to collab with a company for $50,000, no matter what that product raked in. On the other hand, Too Faced made a killing after paying Nikki and this is where things get fishy.

Allegedly, a contract was laid out which stated Nikki was not able to work with an other brands while launching the Too Faced Collab. There has been talk that the collab took much longer to precede then originally anticipated, which meant Nikki wasn’t making any money form other brands she could have been potentially collaborating with. (screenshot photo from makeupandbeautyforever.com)

Screen Shot 2017-06-17 at 7.38.16 PM

The second issue was the consistency of the actual product. People went absolutely crazy when they heard Nikki Tutorials was doing a palette with Too Faced, me being one of them. But as the reviews started rolling out, they were all over the place. Some bloggers were saying it was pigmented, buttery and all around gorgeous, whereas other were saying the powders were stiff and didn’t transfer onto the skin. This is something I have seen with Too Faced in the past. There are times that they have the most amazing shadows ever, but sometimes they aren’t so great. This is an issue that happens during manufacturing. Sometimes companies take short cuts to pump out products quicker, regardless of the outcome. There are times a company will split the manufacturing to different locations which makes a less consistent product. Unfortunately, Nikki received a lot of back lash when people didn’t love the eyeshadows. Jeffree claimed Nikki was not as involved with the collab as she intended, because Blandino wouldn’t allow her to be. Again, this part is kind of what I’ve learned through the grapevine so don’t hold me to anything that isn’t true.

Apparently, after all of this happened, Blandino’s sister made some comments about Jeffree saying his makeup line was “for clowns” and that he has “mental problems”. This further set Jeffree off and he continued to make comments on social media against the Blandino’s. (screenshot photo from makeupandbeautyforever.com)

Screen Shot 2017-06-17 at 7.39.48 PM

Now amid all of this, Jeffrey mentioned Kandee Johnson, saying he hopes Too Faced doesn’t do to Kandee what they did to Nikki. This statement was because Kandee Johnson JUST revealed her collab with Too Faced. This is where my ears perked up and I started looking further into all of this because KANDEE IS MY GIRL. I mean, I like Jeffree Star and Too Faced products but I LOVE Kandee Johnson. I have been a fan of hers for years, so of course I had to know the scoop.. but apparently thats where it ends. With five parties now involved, Jeffree, Blandino, Blandino’s sister, Nikki and Kandee, no one is talking about it anymore.

Jeffree did post something about “going for blood” when someone comes for his company and a lot of people are speculating he is dealing with legal issues since speaking out against Too Faced. This is not confirmed, but I will let you know if I find out more. It seems everyone either worked things out behind closed doors, agreed to disagree, or just couldn’t keep up with the drama. The posts on social media have all since been deleted but I was able to find the photos above with a quick google image search, I did list where I found the photos, as they are not my screenshots.

Wow that was a lot! I hope this was somewhat organized enough for everyone to take in. I don’t know if these Beauty Feuds are something you guys and gals are interested in, but let me know in the comments because trust me theres a loooooot happening behinds the scenes. If this isn’t your cup of tea, don’t worry, I will still be posting reviews, unboxing and more.

Ipsy vs. Sephora: June Unboxing

Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog! Today is one of my favorite days, UNBOXING SUBSCRIPTION BOXES DAY!!!!  You may have noticed I didn’t do this last month. There was an issue with one of my subscriptions so I received it super later. Because of that, I skipped May’s unboxing. But now I’m back in the swing of things and have two subscription boxes to share with you guys and gals.

In the red corner, we have Ipsy Glam Bag! For $10 per month, this box includes 5 products ranging from sample to full sized! These products are a mixture of high end and drugstore items.

In the blue corner, we have Sephora Play Box! This also weighs in a $10 per month for 5 products ranging from sample to full size, however these brands are high-end brands exclusively.

Each bag will be reviewed thoroughly, piece by piece so that we can determine the better box. You will notice the product lists have the sizes listed next to them:

Full sized= (FS)

Deluxe Sample= (DS)

Sample= (S)

Please note the prices listed are what I have found online at different retailers and are for FULL SIZED products. If you have an Ipsy subscription, you can find deals for certain brands, so check there before purchasing to save some pennies..  Okay, lets dive in!

Ipsy Products

Kokie Professional Nail Polish in Gone Rio, (FS)

Privai Matte Moisturizer, (DS)

The Balm Cosmetics Balm Springs Blush, (S)

NYX Whipped Lip & Cheek Souffle, (DS)

Doucce Maxlash Volumizer Mascara, (DS)

First, the cosmetics bag this month is super adorable. I am really hit and miss with these bags, sometimes I love them and sometimes I don’t understand why theres so awful, so I was very pleased to see this fun design this month!

Kokie Professional Nail Polish in Gone Rio is a really nice coral-y shade of pink. Perfect shade for summer! I haven’t used this brand, but coincidentally I just watched Tati Westbrook’s Youtube channel and she did a full review of Kokie. After watching that I was intrigued to try this brand out and then bam!, its in my Ipsy bag! I haven’t tried this yet but definitely will be soon. This brand is new to Walmart I believe, this polish is listed on kokiecosmetics.com for $6, awesome price!

Privai Matte Moisturizer is listed on the webiste, privia.com for $30. This is described to help oily/blemish skin so it sounds like I will love it! I haven’t tried it yet but believe you me, this will be in use very soon. It has grapeseed and sage extract listed in the ingredients. I did swatch it on the back of my hand and the texture feels sikly and moisturizing. This smells like lemons, very citrus like.

The Balm Cosmetics Balm Springs Blush is listed on kohls.com for $21. This is one of those tiny samples that I just end up swatching and forgetting about. I totally need to invest in a Z palette to depot all these little guys! I am a fan of Balm cosmetics, I’m familiar with there eyeshadows and mascaras but I’ve never used their blushes. I will say this color is very nice! I prefer pale/muted blushes and this is a gorgeous pale pink. I think this color will color very nicely with my complex so I will be try this out, however I have sooooo many blushes so I don’t see myself buying a full sized one any time soon.

NYX Whipped Lip & Cheek Souffle is not the texture I thought is would be. For some reason I thought this would be light and fluffy, like an air whipped consistency. Remember the Dream Mousse bronzer from Maybelline back in the day (aka the bronzer I used every single day of high school)? That’s totally what I expected when I opened this but alas, it was very slippery and slick. I like the color and it works really well for a lip topper.

Doucce Maxlash Volumizer Mascara is listed on their website, doucce.com for $22. Pretty average price for mascara. I haven’t used this product yet. I just have so many mascaras so I haven’t reached for this one at all. The wand is nice, the type of bristles I prefer.

Sephora Products

Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick Lovesick, (DS)

Klorane Dry Shampoo, (DS)

Benefits the Porfessional, (S)

Verb Sea Spray, (DS)

Coola Makeup Setting Spray, (S)

The bag this month is okay. I say it every month, I don’t really like these draw string bags. The graphic is cute but beyond that I probably wont use this bag again, sorry Sephora.

Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick in Lovesick is a gorgeous pink/mauve color. I am very familiar with this product as I own 4 of these already, (Lolita, Lolita II, Xo, and Melancholia). The formula on these are phenomenal! They are a bit dry, but if you exfoliate your lips before applying then you shouldn’t have a problem at all. The color range in the liquid lipsticks are amazing, they are listed on sephora.com for $20 each. I definitely recommend these if you need long lasting, pigmented color. I couldn’t help but swatch this as soon as I opened it.

Klorane Dry Shampoo is listed on sphora.com for $10 or $20 depending on the size you buy. This came with the $10 can and OH. MY. GOODNESS. GIMME. MORE! This dry shampoo is my new obsession!!!!! I really love this stuff and as cheap as I am, I’ll spring $20 for another can of this as soon as this one run out. If you like dry shampoos that really soak up excess oils and give you volume, this for you! When you spray it on it goes completely gray, so I was little nervous. But after 3 minutes you can shake it out and brush through your hair for a serious refresher.

Benefits the Professional is another product I have used in the past, it’s $30 on sephora.com . I really love the way this helps minimize the appearance of pores. The texture is like no other, it’s so silky. Heres a photo I shared a while back showing the difference of wearing foundation with and without, which kind if speaks for itself.

Verb Sea Spray is listed for $7 or $14 on spehora.com, depending on the size. This is the $7 size which contained 2.4 oz of product. I will say I’m not big of texturizing sprays but I am interested to try this out being that its the perfect time of year for beach waves. This smells fresh and floraly and the mister on the bottle is very nice!!

Coola Makeup Setting Spray is listed on sephora.com for $36, holy cow! That seems like a lot of money for a setting spray to me.. I currently use Tarte Marine Boosting Spray and Mac Fix Plus which are both about $25 each. This Coola spray does has 30 spa, which is great but I don’t want two fall in love with a product that expensive. Maybe I’ll use this in a giveaway?

Overall

My Ipsy bag was pretty good, I’m excited about the nail polish and matte moisturizer. The blush is a pretty color but I don’t like these tiny samples (again this could easily be solved by getting a z palette but I’m lazy!)

My Sephora bag is bananas. I looooove me some liquid lipsticks and this dry shampoo is my new best friend. Because of those two products alone I have to say, the winner is……… Sephora Play Box!

Side note

As much as I really love doing beauty unboxings, I’m feeling like these small samples just aren’t cutting it anymore. I don’t want to pay for these monthly subscriptions to not use the products. I am pretty torn here, should I cancel these boxes and do a more expensive box like Boxy Charm or Glossy Box? Those are closer to $20 a month, but they usually come with all full sized products so I feel like I would use them more regularly. Let me know in the comments what you think; Is it time for something new or do you guys and gals want me to stick with Ipsy/Sephora?
